School Age Program

January 2024

A media that is often explored and manipulated frequently in the school age program is Plasticine. I have observed many masterpieces created from children over my years as an Educator however, TW’s most recent piece, inspired by her trip to Disneyland, was certainly a "show stopper". She prided herself on patience as she took time time to form, sculpt and add texture by using molding tools to create a Cinderella character made from recycled plasticine. I was certainly impressed by how she could go by memory not requiring a blueprint of the Disney character. Many other children at the table used the plasticine to mold beautiful and creative pieces of art. IW proudly tells the group "I am making a royalty scene” while others sculpt pets and snakes. This engagement is beautiful not only for their creativity but for the bonding that happens while they take part in this type of three dimensional expressive art.
