School Age Program

november 2023

Together, TA and IW enjoy playing with the basket full of animals. They are observed adding many different items to their animal dramatic play such as blocks, plants and wood cookies. TA shared a video that shows how to create a Rainforest from paper mache. We discuss making one for our program out of a simple cardboard box.

We put our heads together and gatherd ideas through books, our acquired knowledge as well as internet images to come up with a blueprint of our homemade Rainforest.

The first initial stage is to sketch out the mountains and waterfall on the box before painting. Once this step is done, IW and TA take turns painting the back drop to prepare the scene. Next we work on the trees and add flowers. The Rainforest has so many beautiful colours! With the help of IW, lN and BN they start to make trees from construction and tissue paper.

We add coloured sand for texture and beautiful gems to simulate the water fall and its transparency. While real Rainforests are covered in thick, lush greenery, beautiful colour and palm trees we need room to add the animals so the children decide to paint some flowers on the backdrop.

The collaborative project is a success and a lot of fun to use in the program!
