Exploring multiple mediums of art has been an ongoing interest in our program since September. Recently the children have been interested in tracing. We have explored tracing using stencils, the light table, and objects in our environment.
To further this, we planned to try texture rubbing. The children were challenged to try different surfaces in our room, using pencils, crayons, and markers, rubbing the patterns onto a piece of paper. We even brought this experience outside, adding a different element to their work. The children were very excited to see the different patterns appear on the paper, sharing with each other how they achieved the design.
We were impressed by how many different surfaces they tried and how many different textures were created on their work.
Next, we will be combining tracing and texture rubbing to create the ultimate piece of art!
