Exploring Light and Transparency...
At the beginning of December, we had a very special delivery….a new light table! As soon as we turned on the light on the light table, the children immediately flooded over to it to check it out! As the children made themselves more familiar with the light table, they began adding materials to expand their play, such as adding magnatiles, transparent coloured blocks, and pieces of cloth! We then added a long mirror alongside the light table to further extend the exploration of light, transparency, and reflection! Additionally, the children are also exploring the different sounds they can create while exploring on the light table, such as clanging the transparent blocks together, taping magnatiles on the light table, or by simply tapping their hands against the light table! Since then, we have added several other materials to extend the children’s interest in light/transparency. We have done this by creating provocations on the light table by using blocks, farm animals, sensory bottles, or musical instruments! I wonder how the children would react if we did an art experience using the light table, such as paper and crayons?
