A child discovered clips that were displayed in the environment. First she began by exploring the clips; opening and closing them. After a while she discovered that she could attach a clip on her finger. Next she tried to pick objects up with the clip on her finger. Then she removed the clip from her finger and attached it to the educator’s hair. In order to expand on the child’s recent discoveries, the educator purposely added a variety of clips and tongs in the environment. The child began to add new ideas to the play and learning as she used the clips and tongs to transfer and sort items into bowls that were available in the environment.
