A Collaborative Art Project

As part of our Family Celebration last week, we wanted to offer a variety of Art media so the children could have an opportunity to engage in some collaborative work. They were invited to explore plasticene and modelling tools, chalk pastels with paper, and a variety of our liquid tempera paints to use on our standing plexiglass easel.

Out of the three tables that were set up, the paint and plexiglass easel were by far the popular choice for all the children. It was so amazing to see them gathered around the easel (which was constructed with three individual plexiglass panels that were attached together) and they applied many layers of paint with their brushes. It was truly a collaborative Art piece, as all of the children were able to add their choices of colour onto the easel surface.

The materials were reoffered over the following week, and it has been transformed into a very interesting 3-dimensional representation of the children’s work. Each day there is a new application of colour, and we are curious to see how it will look when the children finally decide to move forward to something else.

What if we put it on top of the light table? How would the colours stand out? We will have to try it out and see in the New Year!
