Today at our gathering A was very focused on the “spider” that we had captured in a jar yesterday. We sang the “itsy bitsy spider” song to the spider as requested by the children and then N said “find more” and pointed outside. Some of the children took what N said as an indication to let the “spider” out of the jar so out it came! As the children watched it crawl all over our carpet we heard many words like “spider!” “go?!” “uh oh!” and lots of screams and laughter. Shortly after we proposed the idea of going outside to find more “spiders” to the rest of the group and they shouted with excitement.

The photos below are of the children gathering the materials we needed to capture spiders, looking under and around the many logs, stumps, boards and tires that we have in both our play space and the infants' space as well. We found 3 different types of spiders, 11 of one kind, 2 of another and then one more different looking one. Come in and check out if you can spot their differences!
