Tinkering with tools!

This month, the children have been interested in the take apart toys that we have recently added to our program. This interest sparked when some of the older children brought a broken calculator into the program and decided to take it apart to see what is inside. We brought in various broken items, TV remotes, clocks, flashlights, and other broken pieces of technology. The children were able to take apart and put together the items in any way they wanted. This allowed the children to practice problem-solving by trying different pieces and tools to see what worked for them. The children were super proud of themselves when they figured out how to use the different tools. ‘N’ was trying to put the broken TV remotes back together. She tried several times to figure out which pieces went together. After a lot of trial and error, she fixed 3 different TV remotes and used them in her dramatic play. The children have lots of fun in this center, we can’t wait to see what they do next!
