School Age

February 2025

For most of February, the children were really engaged by playing with the house centre and play kitchen props .One of the ideas that the children had implemented was to create a “Kitchen Shop”. After the initial setup, the children were asking the educators if they wanted to “buy stuff”. Marlene responded by saying, “Sure, I'll buy some eggs” .She used the Monopoly money that was given to her by the children, and they charged her $10 for the eggs!

To expand their play further, the children began to use the toy shelf to set up their space. On the top of the shelf, the children lined up the eggs, cups, plates, forks, and bowls. Could they be revisiting their restaurant that they had earlier in the fall?We will have to wait and see!

The children have also really enjoyed making playdough this month. Paint was added to provide colour, and a big group of children took turns measuring and mixing up the dough ingredients. Once the dough was finished, the children spent a long time squishing and shaping their dough. One of the children even created a giant cookie with her portion!

I wonder if there’s a way to include their dough creations with their kitchen play? Let’s see what happens next!
