We engaged in an activity involving spray bottles, markers, and paper towels. In the first step, the children chose their favorite marker colors and drew freely on the paper towels. In the second step, they sprayed water onto the paper towels and observed the changes.
CH grabbed a black marker and drew on the paper towel, then sprayed water on it, watching as it gradually turned into different colors. “It’s green, yellow, and blue.” He said. As he continued spraying, he made further discoveries. Curiously, he asked the educator, “Where colors go?” The educator responded with the open-ended questions, “Have they disappeared? What do you think?” ; “I don’t know,” he said.
We look forward to revisiting the materials next time, hoping CH will continue exploring and enhancing his critical thinking. EB and LS were unfamiliar with the spray bottles. EB observed how the peers used it and asked the educator for help. Meanwhile, LS explored the spray bottle on her own, trying to turn the nozzle. With the educator's encouragement and guidance, they sprayed water onto their creations. Their facial expressions conveyed a sense of achievement from acquiring a new skill. How exciting!
