Toddler Program

february 2017

Throughout this month, we continued to explore the idea of number sense and math concepts as a group. The children explored ideas of quantification (more/less), lengths, weights, sorting, patterning and value throughout many different play scenarios. In order to gain a better understanding of the children’s knowledge and thoughts around mathematical concepts, we continue to introduce them to open ended materials. Through these explorations, the children are able to manipulate materials without the interference of preconceived intentions; meaning each experience is unique to the child. Through provocation and observations, we are able to intently and purposefully document how the materials are being used by each child individually. These observations have created incredible insight into the individual child’s thinking, and where their learning experiences have taken them!
